Croydon Council loses unfair dismissal case
09/03/2010
Croydon Council has reached a private settlement with a former employee after losing an unfair dismissal case.
The Croydon Advertiser reported that bosses at the council refused to comment on the settlement awarded to Alan Langridge, who won his claim for constructive unfair dismissal in September.
Mr Langridge spent nine years working as a senior council officer and stated that he was left feeling "very ill" as a result of the way he was treated towards the end of his employment.
Both parties were due to attend a remedy hearing this Monday (March 8th) to decide on a financial settlement; however, the newspaper revealed that this did not take place because an agreement was reached privately.
A spokesperson for the local authority explained that the deal reached between the council and Mr Langridge included a confidentiality clause.
According to the publication, he was due to receive tens of thousands of pounds in the settlement.
Last month, Ealing Council was ordered to pay a former temporary accommodation manager £63,000 after he successfully brought a claim for unfair dismissal.
