HR support services 'need to make sure young employees are supported'
10/03/2010
Anyone working in HR support services should make sure that younger employees within the company are helped in terms of their development and not put under too much pressure.
Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, explained that there should be a burden of responsibility, particularly on larger employers, to train their young and low-paid workers.
He commented: "Some employers are very good [at this] but it is very patchy."
Mr Huxham continued that "there is a lot more that can be done" to support young, unqualified workers, such as through training courses and by teaching extra skills.
Research released by the Resolution Foundation on March 8th revealed that 66 per cent of people in the 25 to 34-year-old age group experienced a fall in income during the recession.
Many of them cited a drop in their hours as the main reason that they are earning less now, while the company which conducted the research also pointed out that low earners have experienced much higher rates of personal inflation than their counterparts with better wages.
